An oldie but a goodie

Classic ending.

Also, stay tuned through the first part of the credits.

The mother of invention

Man, it's been hot! The other day, R and his friend really wanted to play in the pool, but it was empty and takes a long time to fill up. At 4pm, it was too late. For R, the sprinkler wasn't doing it. (I could tell by his screaming of "NO! NO!")

So, when you don't have time to fill up the whole kiddie pool... go for the simple solution. Or, as I call it, the "redneck kiddie pool."

Our neighbor grabbed this bucket out of the back of his pick-up, took out the tools (washed it out), and... voilà! Instant cooling.

Fried WHAT?

Here is a pretty amusing Bill Maher rant on the pharmaceutical industry.

I'm not against medication. In fact, I described this morning as one of my "apparent Advil deficiency" days, and acted accordingly. I'm also in favor of antibiotics when presented with an infection. And modern medicine saved our son.

Having said that, I actually agree with some of his points. So with and a grain of salt in hand, take a look at this...

Ten Years Ago:

Ten years ago, I was managing a group of tech support folks and not enjoying it one bit. But I just married my favorite girl, and we were settling into our apartment. So that part was good. I think that is when we took in my least favorite girl (cat), Madeline Bassett. (Yes, I realize a Bassett is a dog. But there's a story behind the name, and I will just give a clue: Wooster.) Madeline was possibly the worst cat that ever lived. She made an ignominious exit before R was born, which I truthfully had nothing to do with. I guess she hated us enough, and the thought of a third human in the house was intolerable. All the better for us.

Five things on today?s to do list:

1. Laundry
2. Nap
3. Finish sorting the "miscellaneous" pile in the basement
4. Make an appointment for an allergy test for R
5. Play with R

Snacks I enjoy:
Pudding cups (the stripe-y ones). Cantaloupe. Cookie dough. Triscuits.

Things I would do if I were a millionaire:
Sail, stay at home, travel to visit family, go to the movies, take a LOT of pictures, buy a speedy quick computer to replace the slow-y sluggish one I use every day.

Places I have lived:
New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland.

Water play

Not all that hot today, but enough so that Reilly and his buddy Jake could play in the pool & water slide.

Independence Day

Interesting world... we in the U.S. just celebrated 225 years of independence from England, which was won by a bloody and brutal war. And today they are our closest allies. (Hardly original or insightful commentary, I know. But I think it's interesting. And I should note that any war in the 18th century was bloody and brutal, not just this one.)

I have heritage in England — great-grandparents on both sides which were immigrants from England.

Today, I celebrate that good relationship we have with the UK by:
  • Flying the Union Jack
  • Being grateful that Britian stands by our side in many things
  • Remembering today's anniversary of the bombing of London in 2005, and praying that the victims' families are finding healing
  • Making some iced Pink Grapefruit Crush "fruit infusion" from London Fruit and Herb company.

As for celebrations and such from the 4th, we did that too. Hit the 'read more' link for pics. (more)

For Lórien and Sally

Some humor and a nice pic.

I was looking for something in my archives, and found this, which I don't know if you saw before. Heh.

And a pic. I'll send you the original if you like. I just wish my camera phone would actually focus. Oh well.

I've known Gracie since she was a baby. She's on my list of "favorite people of all time". She is kind, smart, fun, and has such a bright smile. Generally just really good to be around.

And she doesn't mind ice cream on her nose. :) Love you kiddo!

Okay, Pokey did this then tagged me for it as well. So if this is boring then it's not my fault. :P

I dug out & scanned some pics from my life. They're after after the jump, so the main page doesn't scroll forever. (more)

Chuckle #2

D'oh...
"Japan has scheduled a full-scale rollout of [computerized electronic] visual age-verification on cigarette vending machines. Unfortunately for them, a Sankei Sports news reporter has determined that this system can be fooled by holding up a magazine photo of an adult."

Didn't see that punch line coming. Love it.

Quote of the day

"I forewarn you, this will be a rather long talk. I am an old man. I do not know how much longer I will live, and so I want to say what I have to say, while I have the strength to say it. I do not know when I will give a talk this long again. I shall give two speeches interrupted by the singing of a hymn. Altogether, I will take about 40 minutes. Having been warned, some of you will wish to get comfortable. Pleasant dreams."
